Music Teaching Philosophy

How my inter-disciplinary identity has influenced my teaching
I believe that teaching is a lifelong learning process where we, as a teacher, learn new strategies, ideas, and philosophies over the years and actively share them with our students and colleagues. I believe that teachers are successful if they label themselves as lifelong learners. My continuous learning in pedagogy and music education allows me to inspire music students to cross-applying their music knowledge into their everyday life.

My Goal as a Music Teacher
I believe it is important for a teacher to be open-minded and inspirational, bringing a positive attitude and high expectation to the classroom daily. Students' critical thinking and active learning may contribute more than their knowledge in the lesson outline. My job as a teacher is to inspire students to succeed, helping them achieve their highest potential in their field and beyond. As a teacher, I aim to motivate my students to develop their own sense of learning and interest. My experience performing and working with an individual worldwide has made me aware of the needs and interests of people with different cultural and ethnically diverse music education scenes.

My Teaching Philosophy
My teaching philosophy and strategies contribute to their learning throughout their course. Students' development of a critical understanding of music and reflection upon our music performance and musicianship are goals for my teaching. It is important to leave students with transferable skills, inspiration, and lasting epiphanies with a practical method. I choose repertoires, etudes, musicianship techniques, and important and challenging activities for students to think beyond their practice learning process. Inclusive learning involves teachers' flexibility in-class delivery and considering the best interest of the students, given their strengths and weakness.

When women are underrepresented in the classical music industry, I believe that my experiences, such as various performances and productions involving classical orchestras, Asian instrumentalists, and other indigenous musicians, promote the possibility of diversification, allowing students to explore the possibility of including interdisciplinary perspective with gender, ethnicity, and classical music, in the Canadian music scene.

Teaching is to leave a legacy for the next generation. I believe that every music student has his/ her uniqueness in developing knowledge. My role is to act as a guide to facilitate knowledge creation and performance opportunities to put their practice and learning to students' full potential.

Inspire students and their families to enjoy life, sharing our weekly music learning to their everyday life to the fullest.
